Sustainability, the newest celebrity in the business world, has health, the environment, social justice, and personal development as elemental core values. The softer side of capitalism, social marketing embraces high ethical standards where making a difference and a profit is synonymous with success. Some of the lifestyle components of the conscious consumer include
- Sustainable Agriculture -"Green Foods"
- Alternative Healthcare
- Non-toxic Living
- Personal Development
- Natural and Organic Meat
Sustainability or sustainable lifestyle is well on it's way to becoming the next "it" buzz word. LOHAS "lifestyle of health and sustainability" movement is being energized, as people become more health, wellness, and disease prevention oriented. Everyday activism in action and a healthy reverence for the environment takes center stage for the "conscious consumer". Conscious consumers buy products that match their personal values. A concept if done collectively, very well may change the world. Permanently shifting the paradigm of spending to be in the consumers favor. Starry eyed daydreaming, you bet. Call it what you will the statistics speak for themselves. Last year, an explosion in the purchase of organic food, natural non-toxic household cleaner, or a hybrid vehicle, to name a few, describes the $228.9 billion U.S. Lohas economic sector. This is no passing trend. A luminous change rests on the horizon. The greater good of man and a healthy profit is the commonality when creating a holistic world view. Having your cake and eating it too.
